New Horizons Foot and Ankle Associates, PLLC is pleased to offer diagnostic ultrasound service to our patients.
An ultrasound is a diagnosis method that uses a special probe to take an image of your foot in order to determine your foot condition. The probe emits sound waves into your body tissues, which are returned to the probe once reaching your body tissues and converted to an image. This image is used to diagnose and determine treatment for your foot condition.
Diagnostic ultrasound is one of the two types of ultrasound used and is a non-invasive imaging technique for soft tissue that is used to diagnose foot disorders. Therapeutic ultrasound, on the other hand, is used to assist in the treatment of soft tissue conditions and offers many restorative benefits.
Ultrasounds can be used to create an image of all the ligaments in your foot and ankle, including the Achilles tendon, the plantar fascia, the posterior tibial tendon, and the peroneal tendons. Proper use requires an experienced ultrasound technician and a trained musculoskeletal radiologist, but ultrasounds prove to be extremely useful in helping with the diagnosis and treatment of foot and ankle conditions.
